Education, Tech & MorePlanet Education Today we are impacted with many debates, fights, theories and myths about how children learn as time passes by. We are able to respond to how children learn to have them learn by a little something called Bloom’s Taxonomy. Bloom’s Taxonomy is a great way for us to understand how children should learn while they are in the classroom, which assures us they are actually learning something. It is important to understand this by thinking critically about it so it could allow us to meet the children’s needs. The word “Taxonomy” means “Classification.” Bloom’s Taxonomy classified learning domains since 1956, which covers three types of learning of individuals: Cognitive (left or right brain), Affective (left brain), and Psychomotor (right brain). A pyramid of steps that Bloom came up will help educators identity what they needed to do to meet the children’s needs in a easier and kinder manner. In the start of 1956, the pyramid pattern was like this: Knowledge, Understanding, Application, Analysis, Synthesis, and Evaluation. Overtime, he has enhanced his development for his Taxonomy. In 2000, this is how the pyramid classifies how a person learns: Remembering, Comprehending, Applying, Analyzing, Evaluating, and Creating. The reason we need to think critically about this is because it is a necessity for us to comprehend how the minds of children work. When we become teachers and we participate in activities or give work in class, we have to consider effective ways to make the learning environment enjoyable, leaving the lesson clogged inside the heads of each student. When we teach something, we are expecting the person we are teaching to keep the knowledge in their heads and then recall it in the future. That is not going to happen if we make a lesson plan that isn’t going to make a change in someone. Because we wish for people to know something after teaching them with one fast try, our speedy and not-so-thought out plans will do nothing but increase lack of interest and learning. We need to remember that we can’t just sit down and start giving a lesson to the people in front of us, then move on. We need to think about the way they think, and be ready to be there for them when they get stuck. Many people think that running a classroom isn’t so bad because you just stand up and start talking about the things you know that the student “most likely” doesn’t know. It is clever to keep in mind that a student learns from his teacher as much as the teacher learns from his student. If we have a memorized method of how our brain works when it comes to collecting knowledge to develop growing intelligence, we, the educators, will be able to see the strengths and weaknesses of others and improve them. Thinking critically about possible situations in the classroom that causes lack of interest/learning and find solutions, we will do a better job in creating our future generations. |
Technology Transfer
Technology has a lot of resources that allow us to use it in an way that is easy to educate our future generation. We can do it in a manner that will capture their attention, so they don’t see the lesson as something boring. Aside from that, everything is done with computers nowadays, so the students should know the basic skills of technology, so they don’t fall behind in future education. Not only that, but this also helps our future generation develop ideas and other skills to use in the future. This is why it is important to have some kind of technology while teaching in the classroom. When I used technology to learn in school, I learned for myself that in order to be able to learn, I needed to see things visually. The images in the computer screen helped me keep the lesson entertaining and jogged into my head. Other activities that involved music and sometimes movement has helped me remember little things that people normally don’t learn. Songs like the alphabet and the solar system can impact an individual's learning in a way that more boring strategies don’t. In any grade level in the school system of our community, I will use the technology to figure out how the students learn and determine what is the best way to teach them due to the fact that every single individual learns differently. I will try different things, such as images to show what something looks like, sounds to show what something sounds like and activities that will engage the students in the best form of learning that is fun and has them remember things years later. Looking Beyond
There are more ways to use technology instead of just posting up the YouTube videos, because that is what teachers normally do, besides using Microsoft Word. There are some new stuff to learned that we would never think could be useful for ourselves or the classroom. I think it is good to learn this because it gives us opportunities to engage entertainment and learning at once. The main challenge I have is that I will always believe that technology can be both good and bad. How it can be good to integrate in the classroom depends on how I use it to begin with. The main issue about that is that not everyone does that properly. I am afraid to be the teacher that does that. There are things that I have not been able to learn yet and that feels like a big challenge to me. I don't want to face something I can't do or handle yet. However, I am glad that I have been able to learn a lot of new things. Similar things like this will make learning extremely fun for others. I want to continue learning about technology, so that I can integrate it in the classroom in a way that improves the children’s learning and not make it a distraction for them. Sometimes not even including it. When I continue taking college courses, I will use examples from other classrooms that integrates technology that will allow me to be knowledgeable enough to use the technology properly when I become one of the educators. I want to be one of the people that shows good examples for others. I am determined to do that. And I know that people out there are too. |
